Skills Center Flourishes

woodworkingThe skills center at House of Martha, which opened last fall, has proven to be a huge success! The children learn the various crafts with great passion and speed. For the boys, carpentry holds a special appeal.  They are able to produce remarkable products like picture frames and shoe racks.  These products could easily be sold at a good price.

Those gifted with particularly nimble fingers do their knitting at lightening speed and derive great joy from their work. They proudly display their finished products knowing that they have done their best.

Even Minerva, whose developmental progress is rather slow, is able to knit beautiful patterns.  One young boy who is learning to make yoyos does so with great enjoyment and the passion behind what he does is absolutely stunning. sewingThere are two sewing tie-dye bagsmachines and the older girls all love to work on them.  For girls their age, their products are very impressive indeed.  The book bags made of cloth which they tie-dyed themselves make the girls particularly proud and they show these to anyone who visits the center.

The younger boys have also learned the art of making sturdy and colorful door mats and it is incredible to see how good the finished products look.  They collect old, tattered clothing and cut them up into small pieces that are weaved onto a sack and the result is a brightly colored door mat which is gentle on the feet.  These can fetch a good price on the market.
