Rainy Season

rainy seasonWhen the rains come to Zambia, the people have a very difficult time doing LIFE!

Flooding and mud are everywhere.  This year was one of the worst rainy seasons on record.  The floods were so overwhelming that the government had to open the Kariba Dam to release some of the huge amounts of water.

Floods in the compounds (shanty areas) mix with the waste from shallow pit latrines filling streets and homes with water contaminated with raw sewage.  Cholera becomes epidemic.

Alliance for Children Everywhere gives live-saving nutritional food support to more than a hundred infants and young children in these compounds.  In each area a family member must meet our truck at a designated church or community building because it is impossible for us to drive into the densely populated areas with no passable streets.

The last two months our hearts have been moved to see the determination of family and guardians as they struggle through mud and water to get the desperately needed food.  Then, loaded down with supplies, they make the long trip home through the mud and the mess but thankfully they have infant formula or milk, cereal, oil, and protein needed for their little ones.
