“When we went to the school I had no plans to do anything other than listen to Pastor speak and just enjoy the people. At the end of the talk my husband, Tom gave the gospel message and then asked if anyone wanted to receive Christ. About 50 hands went up! Tom led them in a sinner’s prayer and then asked for anyone who wanted prayer about things they were struggling with to come forward. A lot of kids came forward and since I was sitting up front, they were all right there in front of me. To be honest, I was pretty nervous because I was feeling very self conscience and wasn't sure that I was up to the task. But there was so many of them and I was right there, so I just got up and started praying for some of the girls.
The first girl asked for prayer regarding her prayer life and I stumbled through, trying to pray for her. The next one had parents who were divorced and her mother had passed away. As I started praying for her she started to cry. I was so touched by her pain that I also began to cry. I think I just held her and cried with her more than I prayed. Then the next two girls completely broke my heart. They had both been raped! One when she was only four and the other at twelve (they were around 14-16 years old). One of them said she had a lot of shame and the other was struggling with trying to forgive the person who had hurt her. I could hardly pray for either one of them because I was crying and they were crying and I just held them and rocked them and grieved with them over their pain. It was a very emotionally draining experience. Afterward I felt very blessed that God had used me to minister to these girls and I pray that He will continue to send people to minister to them.”
