When we opened the Faith Works schools in 2000, most of the 45 teachers were untrained volunteers. These young men and women were unable to find a job in Zambia's economy where unemployment was topping 70%. At the same time every day they saw young children playing in the streets when they should be in school. When plans for the schools were being made they volunteered.
We were only able to pay these teachers a small stipend, but we did sponsor them to attend teacher's college on the weekends and after teaching in the evenings. Their goal was to get the coveted Zambia Teacher's Education Certificate (ZATEC). It would take years, but they were more than willing to put in the hard work.
Early in January two teachers, Edna Daka and Joseph Mtonga successfully completed their studies, earning their ZATEC..jpg)
They both look forward to providing a better education for the children in their respective community schools. They are very grateful for having been given the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications for their teaching work.
For just $25 a year you can help provide basic expenses, giving a young boy or girl the opportunity to be educated. To sponsor a child’s education for one year, click on DONATE, then choose FAITH WORKS from the drop-down list.
