More Room for Little Ones
The Bill and Bette Bryant Crisis Nursery Grows

RedSockHat

When the Bill and Bette Bryant Crisis Nursery opened in 2003, it was intended to provide care for 15 children from 18 months through 4 years.  In the past year alone, as the crisis in the country worsened, we have been filled over capacity, sometimes by almost double!

When ACE first began work in Zambia, it was felt that the crisis nurseries needed to be accessible to the poor so they were located in the compounds.  With experience, we learned that there are many reasons why the children could and should be in safer areas with reliable utilities. The Bill and Bette Bryant Crisis Nursery (BBB) was the last of our homes still located in the compounds where the streets are dirty and the areas are prone to disease, especially malaria.  BBB, located on a potholed dirt road is within ½ mile from the water reclamation site where mosquitoes love to multiply.  This summer the current property had to be evacuated for three days in order to spray and kill the mosquitoes.  There is no room to play; there is no yard or parks anywhere nearby.

You can imagine our excitement when we found a larger and better-situated BBBNewHousereplacement property located within walking distance of both the House of Moses and its sister home House of Martha.   With a generous grant, we were able to purchase this good sized property on a cul-de-sac with a nice garden and even a small fruit orchard!  There is reliable electricity, clean water from an existing well, and lots of room to play.  The house has 3 small bedrooms and one bathroom and two other structures that will be used for a small classroom and laundry. There is a block wall around the whole property for safety.  The house will be ready for our BBB toddlers as soon as we can add two more bedrooms and another bathroom.

With the property secured, we are now inviting our friends and partners BBBfront yardto help us fund the needed additions.  We need $35,000 for the additions and to enlarge the small septic system.  Please let us know how you can help by clicking on our donate button and choosing “CHILD RESCUE: Bill and Bette Bryant” from the drop-down menu.  Then imagine yourself receiving 30 big hugs and kisses from giggling toddlers, dancing for joy as they occupy their new home!  THANK YOU!
